Chaudhry Sugar Mills case: Judiciary approves closure of NAB probe against Nawaz, Maryam

LAHORE: An accountability judiciary in Lahore on Monday approved the closure of the probe in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case against former premier Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Provincial head Maryam Nawaz.

The ruling was announced by the accountability judiciary's magistrate Rana Arif on the National Anti-graft bureau's (NAB) legal challenge to halt the probe.

The NAB prosecutor contended that there was no proof of graft against Nawaz and Maryam.

Following the arguments, the judiciary gave final endorsement to discontinue the probe into the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case against the top leaders of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Following the FMU short report, the anti-graft watchdog launched a formal fact-finding process in October 2018. The probe revealed that Nawaz, Maryam, Shahbaz Sharif, Abbas Sharif, and other family members were shareholders in the company, along with external investors from the UAE and the UK.
