Eight women die, 80 hurt as Rahim Yar Khan shop roof collapses during BISP cash payout
At least eight women were killed and more than 80 others injured when the roof of a shop collapsed in Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab, during the distribution of Benazir Financial relief Programme (BISP) cash, representatives stated.
Sector Police Officer (DPO) Irfan Samo stated the event took place in Chak 123P while women had gathered to collect their province welfare payments ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
According to recovery effort representatives, the roof gave way under the weight of the crowd. The shopkeeper allegedly directed some of the more than 100 women onto it while others stayed inside, according to an representatives.
A case has been registered at the Airport Police Station under the name of the relief bureau. Five individuals, including the private retailer’s device agent, have been named in the case.
Recovery effort teams and police personnel pulled out those trapped under the debris and shifted them to Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan.
