FO condemns sentencing of Kashmiri head Asiya Andrabi, two others by Indian judiciary
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned the sentencing of Kashmiri head Asiya Andrabi and two other women activists by an Indian judiciary, terming the move a "grave miscarriage of fairness and part of a broader strict enforcement on dissent."
In a comment, the External Office categorically rejected the life imprisonment awarded to prominent Andrabi, along with 30-year prison sentences handed to her associates, Fehmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen, by a Delhi judiciary under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Statute.
Andrabi, who founded a Kashmiri freedoms group called Dukhtaran-i-Millat, or Daughters of the Country, which was later banned by the Indian province, was arrested by India’s National Probe Bureau in April 2018.
Additional Sessions Magistrate Chander Jit Singh of the specially designated National Investigating Bureau Judiciary in Delhi handed down the sentences after assembly session arguments about the quantum of punishment, Indian press documented.
The three were convicted on January 14, 2026, under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code, including "allegations of conspiracy to commit assailant acts and waging conflict against the province.”
