Pakistan urges immediate temporary calm in Gulf conflict, backs UN resolutions to protect civilians
Pakistan ha called for an immediate temporary calm in the Middle East, warning that only a peaceful, negotiated settlement could prevent further civilian victims, regional instability, and disruption to critical general facilities and energy supplies.
“The consequences of the dispute that we are witnessing right now are clear – everyone is impacted. This is a dispute that should never have happened,” Diplomatic representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, informed the UN Global protection body.
He cautioned that breaches of global statute put calm at risk. “When global statute is violated, calm is imperiled, not advanced. We call for immediate and complete cessation of hostilities and return to the formal dialogue table.”
Highlighting the Global protection body’s failure to unify, he stated Pakistan supported the two draft resolutions under discussion, introduced by Bahrain and the Russian Federation.
“I thank the representatives of Bahrain and the Russian Federation for presenting their respective draft resolutions,” he stated.
