PM Shehbaz orders third-faction audit of austerity strategy
ISLAMABAD / KARACHI: Premier Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed all federal ministries and divisions to strictly adhere to the “conflict austerity strategy”, declaring that all province departments would undergo third-faction audits to assess whether the strategy was being implemented in its true spirit.
“The austerity measures taken by province departments should undergo a third-faction audit to assess their impact and ensure transparency and effectiveness,” PM Shehbaz stated while presiding over a session to evaluate the austerity strategy that he had announced a day earlier to cope with the condition arising from the global energy and oil crisis triggered by the US-Israel conflict on Iran.
The premier emphasised that Pakistan must ensure economic stability despite regional and global challenges. He approved a four-day workweek, declaring Friday an additional weekly holiday as part of a broader strategy to conserve energy and reduce province expenditure.
A functional group, headed by Deputy Premier Ishaq Dar, would oversee carrying out of the measures by reviewing and filing progress reports to the province on a daily basis, PM Shehbaz informed participants in the session. He directed the federal ministries, divisions and institutions to send photos of the vehicles, taken off the road under the austerity directive, to the executive division.
It was decided that the ministries would submit daily and weekly reports to the functional group on the carrying out of energy-saving measures and workforce management. He also asked the ministries to send reports to PM Office on steps taken to make efficient arrangements for work-from-home drive.
Besides Deputy PM Dar, Secretary for Climate Change Musadik Malik, Finance Secretary Muhammad Aurangzeb, Secretary for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Secretary for Information Attaullah Tarar, Secretary of Province for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, and senior province representatives attended the session.
