US Congress short report reveals heavy US province expenditure in Iran conflict
WASHINGTON: Representatives from Head Donald Trump's governing body estimated during a congressional short report this week that the first six days of the conflict on Iran had cost the US at least $11.3 billion, a source familiar with the matter stated on Wednesday.
That figure, from a closed-door short report for senators on Tuesday, did not include the entire cost of the conflict, but was provided to legislators as they have clamoured for more information about the dispute.
Several congressional aides have stated they expect the White House to soon submit a request to Congress for additional funding for the conflict. Some representatives have stated the request could be for $50 billion, while others have stated that estimate seems low.
The governing body has not provided a general assessment of the cost of the dispute or a clear idea of its expected duration. Trump stated during a trip to Kentucky on Wednesday that "we won" the conflict but that the US will stay in the fight to finish the job.
The drive against Iran began on February 28 with US and Israeli airstrikes and has so far killed around 2,000 individuals, mostly Iranians and Lebanese, as the dispute has spread into Lebanon and thrown global energy markets and transport into chaos.
