Mali's legal defence team secretary documented dead in senior officer weekend assault

Mali's Legal defence team Secretary Sadio Camara was killed in an assault on his residence near the main forces base outside Bamako on Saturday, France's RFI radio and two relatives stated on Sunday.

A relative of Camara's informed Reuters he had been killed, while a Malian reporter known to be a brother-in-statute of the legal defence team secretary posted about his death on Facebook.

A representative for Mali's legal defence team government department and a province representative did not respond to requests for comment on Sunday. A comment by the armed forces stated operations were continuing in various parts of the country to repel the insurgents.

The United Nations called for an global response to unrest and extremist unrest in West Africa's Sahel zone following Saturday's assault, for which representatives have not provided a death toll.

"The secretary‑senior commander is deeply concerned by reports of attacks in several locations across Mali. He strongly condemns these acts of unrest," a UN representative posted on X.
