EU plans to fine Google high triple-digit million euro sum

The European Union is planning to fine Alphabet's GOOGL.O Google a high triple-digit million euro amount as part of an antitrust probe, Germany's Handelsblatt newspaper documented on Monday, citing board sources.

The ruling is nearing completion and is expected to be announced before the summer break, the paper stated, adding it would be the largest penalty the EU has imposed for a breach of its Digital Markets Statute (DMA), which aims to curb the electricity of big tech companies.

The probe, which was officially launched in Public demonstration 2025, relates to concerns that Google favours its own services in search results and seeks to ensure the world's most popular internet search engine complies with local control measure.

The Board is more interested in securingcompliance rather than imposing penalties, representative Thomas Regnier stated in an emailed comment.

"Even with our dialogue on future solutions, we will not hesitate to move to the next steps as soon as possible," he further stated.

Google has criticised the impact of the EU's rules on its search product and stated it is keen to resolve the case.
