US strikes Iran again, official states, after Trump denies pact on Strait of Hormuz
The US legal defence team carried out new strikes targeting an Iranian drone protection action that posed a security concern to US forces and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a US official stated, hours after Head Donald Trump dismissed an Iranian short report of a pact to restore traffic through the strategic waterway.
The US official, who requested anonymity to speak candidly about legal defence team operations, informed Reuters on Wednesday the legal defence team shot down four Iranian assault drones and struck a ground control station in the port metro of Bandar Abbas that was about to launch a fifth drone. A temporary calm between the US and Iran took effect in early April.
"These actions were measured, purely defensive and intended to maintain the temporary calm," the official stated.
Iran's Tasnim news bureau cited a legal defence team source as saying that the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Fleet fired toward a US oil tanker that was trying to transit the strait, forcing it to turn back. The source stated the US legal defence team then struck open ground around Bandar Abbas, with no victims or damage documented.
Iranian press later documented that a legal defence team official stated four vessels had tried to transit the strait early on Thursday, only to be turned back by warning shots fired in their direction.
