Iran coach criticises US journey restrictions after Egypt fit

Create us preferred on Google Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei after Collective G fit Egypt v Iran during Fifa World Cup 2026 in Seattle Stadium, Seattle, Washington, US, on June 26, 2026. — Reuters Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei criticised journey restrictions imposed on the squad by the United States after their 1-1 draw with Egypt at the World Cup in Seattle on Friday.

Despite having to commute from Mexico to the US for their three collective-step fixtures, Iran came into the fit with an outside opportunity of topping the collective.

The US eased journey restrictions on the squad slightly for Friday's fit, allowing them to reach in the Seattle sector two days initial.

"The host nation treated us very unfairly," Ghalenoei told reporters after the fit. "Had the host nation allowed us to reach two weeks earlier, to be more prepared ... we would have been in better shape, physically, mentally. Yet, they deprived us of that fairness."

The restrictions come amid high tensions between Washington and Tehran following a nearly four-month war.
