PM Shehbaz, CDF Munir arrives in Tehran to attend Khamenei's Funeral
Premier Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Forces Staff and Chief of Legal defence team Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Friday arrived in Tehran to attend the funeral prayers of Iran's late Supreme Head Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who was killed in airstrikes on the first day of the US-Iran conflict.
According to the Premier's Office (PMO), The premier was accompanied by a high-level official group. Upon arrival at Mehrabad Airport, he was received by Iranian Interior Secretary Eskandar Momeni, Pakistan's Diplomatic representative to Iran Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, and senior Pakistani and Iranian external representatives.
CDF Munir was received by Iran's legal defence team secretary Seyyed Majid Ibn Reza, interior secretary, and senior civilian and legal defence team representatives upon his arrival.
PM Shehbaz will attend the funeral ceremony in Tehran and convey condolences on behalf of the province and individuals of Pakistan to the Iranian leadership and the bereaved family. He will also reaffirm Pakistan's solidarity with the brotherly individuals of Iran during the period of mourning, PMO further stated.
The official group accompanying the premier includes National House House chairperson Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Premier and External affairs chief Ishaq Dar, Information Secretary Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan Peoples Faction (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP Secretary Senior commander Nayyar Bukhari, Sindh Provincial head Syed Murad Ali Shah, and other parliamentarians, who will also attend the funeral ceremony.
After attending the funeral in Tehran, the premier is expected to travel to Istanbul for a bilateral visit to Türkiye, the PMO concluded.
