Rain-related incidents kill nine, injure 28 across K-P, Punjab
Heavy rain, strong winds and flash floods killed at least nine individuals and injured 28 others across Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) over the past 48 hours, the Provincial Urgent condition response management Body (PDMA) and Recovery effort 1122 verified on Thursday.
"The dead included two men, four children and one woman, while the injured comprised seven men, one woman and 11 children," it further stated.
The PDMA stated 38 houses were damaged, including 36 that sustained partial damage and two that were destroyed, adding that the incidents were documented in the districts of Khyber, Lower Dir, Mardan, Shangla, Bajaur, Lower Chitral and Upper Dir.
The body stated it was coordinating with Recovery effort 1122, sector administrations and other relevant departments, with assistance support operations continuing in the affected areas, directing sector administrations to provide assistance support supplies to affected families, accelerate assistance support efforts and ensure immediate assistance for victims.
The director senior commander of the PDMA urged the general to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from vulnerable tourist destinations and follow official alerts and advisories.
The body stated its Urgent condition Operations Centre (EOC) remained fully operational and advised the general to short report emergencies and obtain weather information through its toll-free helpline, 1700.
