Karachi Bans Heavy Traffic for Eid Milad-un-Nabi Festivities

Karachi - In a significant move aimed at ensuring public safety during the upcoming Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebrations, the Karachi Traffic Police have announced a complete ban on the entry and movement of all heavy traffic across the sprawling metropolis.

More From Dunya News, The strict restriction will be in effect for a full 48-hour period, covering the 11th and 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal. These dates are expected to fall on Friday, September 5th, and Saturday, September 6th, 2025. This measure is being taken to facilitate the safe passage of large-scale religious processions and gatherings.

The directive was formally issued by the office of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic, Pir Muhammad Shah. In a decisive communication, he has addressed a letter to the presidents of all eight major heavy transport associations operating within the city, ensuring the message is widely disseminated.

The letter explicitly states that dumpers, semi-trucks, and trailers will not be permitted on Karachi's roads for the entire two-day period. This ban is a critical component of the city's broader security and traffic management plan for the religious festival.

The primary reason for this act is to protect the thousands of citizens who will participate in the city-wide celebrations. DIG Traffic Shah highlighted that on the 11th and 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, large processions travel along the city's main arteries. To prevent any untoward incidents and ensure the smooth flow of these processions, suspending heavy traffic was deemed an unavoidable step for public safety.

This measure has also been implemented against the backdrop of growing concerns over road safety in Karachi. The city has witnessed a high number of traffic accidents, with many fatal incidents involving collisions between large trucks and motorcycles. The temporary ban is therefore seen as a proactive step to mitigate traffic-related risks during a period of heightened pedestrian activity.

The eight transport associations have been formally notified to ensure their full compliance with this directive. They are responsible for instructing their members to keep heavy vehicles off the roads to avoid penalties. The Karachi Traffic Police will be deployed in full force to strictly enforce the ban and will implement detailed traffic diversion plans to manage the flow of regular traffic around procession routes.
