Govt announces Eid holidays for offices from Public demonstration 20-21
The central governing body has declared Public demonstration 20 and Public demonstration 21 as general holidays for offices on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, according to a Executive Division formal notice issued on Sunday.
“The premier has been pleased to declare Public demonstration 20 and 21, 2026 (Friday and Saturday) as general holidays on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, both for offices observing five- and six- day work weeks,” the formal notice, seen by Dawn , stated.
The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Board (Suparco) has projection that Eidul Fitr is expected to fall on Public demonstration 21 as the chances of sighting the Shawwal moon on Public demonstration 19 remain low.
However, the final ruling regarding the sighting of the Shawwal moon and Eidul Fitr will be made by the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Panel.
Suparco observed the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Panel was the “sole competent body to announce the beginning of Islamic months on credible observer testimonies and verified observations from across the country”.
Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Division (PMD) also predicted that Ramazan was likely to last 30 days this year and the Shawwal moon was unlikely to be visible on the evening of Public demonstration 19, thereby Eidul Fitr would likely commence on Public demonstration 21.
