Govt to distribute 700,000 Chromebooks under PM minors initiative
The Prime Secretary’s Minors Programme has announced the distribution of 700,000 Chromebooks to learners across the nation to extend virtual reach and endorse tech-driven learning.
The initiative was unveiled by PM Minors Programme Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, who said the shift aims to equip young individuals with modern learning tools and help span the virtual split between urban and rural areas.
He said the Chromebooks would be provided to deserving learners enrolled in schools, colleges and universities, adding that the programme would be implemented in phases to secure transparency and effective monitoring.
According to the PMYP, learners from all provinces, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, will be covered under the scheme.
The announcement comes as Pakistan moves toward local assembly of Chromebooks. Deputy Prime Secretary and Foreign Secretary Ishaq Dar recently described the initiate of Chromebook assembly in the nation as an industrial milestone, saying it would endorse tech adoption, create jobs and strengthen the local manufacturing habitat.
Representatives have said locally assembled devices would help lessen costs and upgrade reach to affordable tech, particularly for learners and educational institutions.
