LHC throws out plea against PM acquittal
The Lahore Regional judicial body (LHC) has upheld an objection to the maintainability of a plea challenging the acquittal of Premier Shehbaz Sharif and his sons in a Rs16 billion illegal financial transfers case.
LHC Head magistrate Aalia Neelum heard the plea filed by a lawyer. The LHC's registrar office had objected to the legal challenge's maintainability, questioning the petitioner's locus standi--the right to bring a legal action before a judiciary.
As proceedings commenced, the head magistrate asked the petitioner's counsel, Amir Saeed Rawn, how his client was an aggrieved faction in the matter.
Head magistrate Neelum observed that the Federal Probe Bureau (FIA), the prosecuting bureau, had not filed any legal challenge against the lower judicial body's acquittal judiciary decision.
The petitioner's counsel contended that the ruling was issued in December 2022 despite the availability of substantial proof in the case. He alleged that the FIA had colluded with the charged individual to secure their acquittal from the lower judicial body.
The counsel further contended that courts could be approached even after a delay in matters of community benefit. However, Fairness Neelum upheld the objection raised by the registrar's office.
