No zebra crossings outside 75% of institutions, LHC informed
A legal challenge has been filed in the Lahore Regional judicial body (LHC) seeking the installation of zebra crossings outside institutions across Punjab, citing serious risks to learners' safety.
The petitioner, Ismatullah, contended that nearly 75 per cent of institutions in the territory lack zebra crossings on adjacent roads, exposing children to hazardous traffic conditions and contributing to congestion.
According to the plea, the School Learning Division had previously announced plans to install zebra crossings outside educational institutions, but no practical steps have been taken so far.
The petitioner stated that a formal request was also submitted to the relevant representatives, which went unanswered.
The legal challenge maintains that the failure to implement safety measures has resulted in unsafe road environments around institutions, putting learners at daily risk while commuting.
It further contends that the inaction of representatives reflects administrative negligence and a lack of proper planning for student safety.
