Pakistan, Saudi Arabia step up diplomacy to avert wider dispute in Muslim world
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are making concerted efforts to ensure that the ongoing regional tensions are resolved peacefully and do not escalate into a dispute among Muslim countries, The News documented, citing sources familiar with high-level dialogue in Jeddah.
The understanding emerged during a short report but important visit to Saudi Arabia by Premier Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday.
The premier was accompanied by Chief of Forces Staff (COAS) and Chief of Legal defence team Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir and Deputy Premier Ishaq Dar, who held dialogue with Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
Sources stated both sides agreed that the current condition in the zone requires urgent external efforts to prevent intensification and ensure that disputes are resolved through formal dialogue rather than confrontation.
Both restated again their consistent directive that conflicts within the Muslim world must be avoided and that every effort should be made to prevent the condition from turning into a wider confrontation among the Muslim states.
