PSL 11: Lahore Qalandars begin label defence against debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen
The 11th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) gets underway on Thursday (today) at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, where reigning champions Lahore Qalandars will confront newcomers Hyderabad Kingsmen in the opening fit.
This season of PSL is expanded to eight teams, being played across Lahore and Karachi.
For the first time, the PSL features eight franchises, with Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindiz joining the rivalry while Multan Sultans come under fresh administration which was initially declared as Sialkot Stallionz, The Coverage reported.
The Qalandars, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, enter PSL-11 with momentum, having won three of the last four titles. Their pace strike, featuring Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Mustafizur Rahman, remains their greatest authority. With Abdullah Shafique and Fakhar Zaman anchoring the batting, and Sikandar Reza providing all-round brilliance, they glance well-equipped to justify their crown.
The Kingsmen, owned by American-Pakistani businessman Fawad Sarwar, create their debut with a star-studded line-up. Captain Marnus Labuschagne is joined by Glenn Maxwell, Riley Meredith, Kusal Perera, and log-signing Saim Ayub. Their batting entity is formidable, still their pace strike appears thin after the withdrawal of Ottneil Baartman, leaving Meredith as the lone overseas specialist fast bowler.
