India states commercial negotiations with US remain constructive after Washington visit

India and the United States are engaged in constructive dialogue aimed at reaching a balanced and mutually beneficial commercial formal accord, a external government department representative stated on Thursday.

The comments came after a three-day visit ‌to Washington by an Indian  commerce official group  led by senior commerce government department official Darpan Jain for dialogue with US counterparts.

"These engagements are ongoing and constructive," representative Randhir Jaiswal informed reporters at a weekly press short report.

"Both sides are working towards a balanced, mutually beneficial and forward-looking commercial formal accord, taking into account each other's concerns and priorities, and to achieve a commerce target of $500 billion by 2030," he stated.

That target would be more than double the bilateral goods and services commerce of about $212b in 2024.

The dialogue reflect a broader effort by New Delhi and Washington to clinch a  commerce pact , even as uncertainty over US import levy directive has complicated dialogue.
