Karachi police lodge case after young physician shot dead near Mehran Hotel
A young physician was shot dead near Mehran Hotel on Karachi’s Dr Daud Pota Road later on Monday night in what police described as a suspected targeted assault.
The casualty was identified as Dr Sarang, 36, son of Muhammad Hussain and a resident of Karachi. A first information short report (POLICE COMPLAINT REPORT) was registered at Heavy weaponry Maidan Police Station today under Sections 34 (common intention) and 302 (murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code, on the complaint of the casualty’s brother, Sarmad Hussain.
According to the POLICE COMPLAINT REPORT, the event occurred at around 11:55pm on Monday. Dr Sarang’s wife, who was present at the scene, stated that the couple were travelling in a rickshaw along Dr Daud Pota Road towards the Karachi University Centre after the physician had returned from customs levy.
Quoting his sister-in-statute, the complainant stated that near Mehran Hotel, a white car with an unidentified registration number intercepted their rickshaw. He further stated that a man stepped out from the rear seat, pulled out a pistol and opened fire on Dr Sarang before fleeing the scene in the same vehicle.
The POLICE COMPLAINT REPORT stated the driver of the car remains unidentified and the wife narrowly escaped unhurt.
Dr Sarang received bullet wounds to his chest and three additional injuries to his legs. He was taken to Jinnah Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries during care.
