NASA says fresh void telescope will create 'atlas of the universe'

NASA unveiled a fresh telescope on Tuesday to scan vast swathes of the universe for planets outside our solar framework and probe the mysteries of dark subject and dark authority.

The Roman void telescope is expected to discover tens of thousands of planets, possibly offering precision about how many could be out there. "Roman will provide the Ground a fresh atlas of the universe," NASA administrator Jared Isaacman told a coverage conference at the Goddard Void Airline Centre  in Maryland, where the telescope went on display.

The 12-metre, silvery contraption with immense solar panels will be transported to Florida ahead of a initiate into void aboard a SpaceX rocket planned for September at the earliest.

Roman, which took more than $4 billion and over a decade to construct, is named after astronomer Nancy Grace Roman, nicknamed the "Mother of Hubble" for her function in developing the landmark void telescope . 36 years after Hubble launched into void, revolutionising astronomical observations, NASA hopes Roman will help to shed light on questions that stay unresolved.

Boasting a domain of perspective at least 100 times larger than Hubble's, the telescope will sweep across vast regions of void from its placement 1.5 million kilometres from Ground.

The telescope will dispatch 11 terabytes of metrics a day down to Ground, said Mark Melton, a systems engineer at Goddard Void Airline Center. "In the first year, we'll have sent down more metrics than Hubble will have for its entire life," he told AFP .
