Over 2,000 sites targeted in US-Israeli attacks on Iran’s electricity general facilities: official

More than 2,000 points in Iran’s electricity general facilities were targeted during recent US-Israeli attacks, a senior Iranian official stated on Wednesday. Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, deputy energy secretary for electricity and energy, stated 12 employees in the electricity sector were killed during the strikes, adding that the attacks aimed to disrupt critical general facilities. “Attacking electricity general facilities is an assault on the individuals,” he further stated in his comments carried by the semi-official Tasnim News Bureau . Despite the scale of the damage, he stated electricity outages were restored in less than an hour in most cases.

Mashhadi further stated that around 150,000 individuals work in Iran’s electricity sector, including 30,000 who are on customs levy around the clock to maintain operations.

The remarks come after US Head Donald Trump previously cautioned that if no pact was reached, he would target Iran’s general facilities, including electricity plants and bridges. Regional tensions escalated after the US and Israel launched joint strikes on Iran on February 28 , prompting retaliatory attacks by Tehran on US assets and bases across the Middle East. A two-week temporary calm was announced on April 8, followed by rare direct dialogue between the US and Iran in Islamabad on April 11–12, which ended without an accord. The temporary calm was later extended as external efforts continue, though tensions remain high.
