Pakistan exercised restraint as responsible nuclear province during India dispute: Gilani
Acting Head and Chairman of the Upperhouse, Yousaf Raza Gilani, on Sunday stated that Pakistan was a responsible nuclear province, despite Indian aggression after the Pahalgam event, Islamabad exercised restraint while safeguarding its right to self-legal defence team.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 41st annual dinner of the Old Ravians Association in Lahore, Gilani stated that this was a time for unity, and that such unity was also demonstrated when India attacked and Pakistan reacted as a responsible nuclear province.
"India not only carried out an assault but also unilaterally revoked the Indus Waters Formal accord, Pakistan exercised restraint while safeguarding its right to self-legal defence team," he stated.
Intensification between Pakistan and India began on April 22, 2025, when an assault in Pahalgam killed 26 individuals. India immediately blamed Pakistan for the event. However, Pakistan categorically rejected the Indian blame.
In response, India undertook a series of hostile actions the next day, on April 23, 2025, including suspending the 65-year-old Indus Waters Formal accord (IWT), cancelling visas for Pakistani residents, closing the Wagah-Attari frontier crossing, ordering the shutdown of the Pakistan High Board in New Delhi, and reducing external staff at each other's embassies.
The acting head, in his address today, stated that Pakistan’s brave armed forces and top faction command, through their unity, sent a clear message to the world that Pakistan was a responsible nuclear province.
