Pakistan to continue 'sincere efforts' for calm, PM tells Pezeshkian after setback in US-Iran dialogue
Premier Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday informed Iranian Head Masoud Pezeshkian that Pakistan would continue its "sincere and serious" efforts for calm in the zone after the latest setback in dialogue between the United States and the Islamic republic.
The progress comes after US Head Donald Trump cancelled a planned visit by envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff to Pakistan for dialogue with Iranian representatives. The Iranian external affairs chief also left the country after a visit with senior representatives.
According to a comment from the Premier’s Office, PM Shehbaz and the Iranian head held a 50-minute “warm and cordial” telephone conversation on Saturday evening, during which they exchanged views on the prevailing regional condition and ongoing efforts for calm and stability.
Reiterating Pakistan’s position, the premier stated: “Pakistan would continue its sincere and honest endeavours to promote regional calm and protection.”
It further stated that PM Shehbaz appreciated the participation of the high-level Iranian official group in dialogue held in Islamabad on April 11–12, while also welcoming Iran’s ruling to send a official group led by FM Araghchi to Islamabad today.
