Punjab CM announces 50-acre Film Metro scheme in Lahore
Punjab Provincial head Maryam Nawaz announced on Sunday the establishment of a 50-acre Punjab Film Metro in Lahore, describing the scheme as a senior officer step towards revitalising the country’s press and entertainment industry.
The formal declaration, shared on the Punjab Province WhatsApp channel, states that the Film Metro will be developed within the Nawaz Sharif IT metro and is being positioned as Pakistan’s first fully “end-to-end” press production hub. According to the provincial head, the drive aims to backing the revival of the film industry through modern technology, general facilities, and resources.
She stated the facility would bring together film, television, animation, and digital press production under one roof, reducing reliance on external countries for visual effects (VFX) and post-production work.
The scheme will include modern studios, sound stages, and post-production laboratories, along with comprehensive shooting facilities. Plans also feature the construction of sets and a central lake to backing large-scale productions.
Convention halls will be established to host global events and award shows, while a press commerce hub and dedicated film and music institutions will also form part of the progress.
Maryam Nawaz stated the scheme is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities and will help promote sectors such as animation, gaming, and digital press.
