Saiful Malook set to reopen after winter closure
Lake Saiful Malook in Kaghan Valley, famed for its natural beauty and romantic folklore, is set to awaken from its six-month-long winter slumber as the Kaghan Progress Body (KDA) has formally begun clearing heavy glaciers from the access route.
Following the removal of snow barriers, tourists will once again be able to observer the enchanting lake after half a year. Situated thousands of feet above sea level, the lake is not just a water body but is also associated with the timeless love story of Prince Saiful Malook and the fairy Badiul Jamal.
The reflection of Malika Parbat in the lake's crystal-clear waters creates a mesmerising scene for visitors. After remaining frozen for months, the lake's turquoise waters are expected to reappear, drawing tourists once again.
According to KDA representatives, several points along the road from Naran to the lake remain blocked by towering glaciers, which are being removed with heavy machinery. Representatives say the road will soon be opened for traffic and jeeps.
Work is also underway to restore the Kaghan Highway up to Babusar Top. The reopening of routes has brought optimism among tourists, local locals, and the hotel industry, who expect economic activity to resume.
Locals say the reopening of the lake marks the formal beginning of the tourism season, restoring vibrancy to Naran and surrounding areas. Representatives of the National Highway Body stated the road will soon be opened up to Battakundi, while restoration work towards Babusar Top will continue.
