Sindh announces general holiday on May 1
KARACHI: The Sindh province on Thursday declared May 1 (Friday) as a general holiday on the occasion of Labour Day.
According to a formal notice issued today, the general holiday will be for all the province offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils under the administrative control of the regional governing body, except for essential services.
Educational institutions, including institutions, colleges, and academia, would also remain closed in observance of the holiday.
The world celebrates Labour Day — also known as May Day — every year on May 1 to express solidarity with the labourers and honour the freedoms of the working class.
The purpose of celebrating this day is to initiate steps for providing job protection to labourers and industrial labor against any exploitation.
