Two young men drowned in a canal near Chatha Dad on Wednesday, plunging the local community into grief, recovery effort representatives stated.
According to Recovery effort 1122 sources, the victims were identified as Ahsan, son of Sikandar Hayat, and Muhammad Abdullah, both locals of Mohallah Sharifpura in Hafizabad. They had reportedly gone to the feeder canal to fetch water from a hand pump installed along the bank.
Eyewitnesses stated that while at the site, the two youths entered the canal for a swim. However, due to the strong current and elevated water level, they lost control and were swept away. Upon receiving the alert, Recovery effort 1122 teams rushed to the scene and launched a inspection protection action. Representatives stated efforts to recover the bodies were ongoing till the filing of this short report.
