France urges EU economic penalties after event involving Gaza-bound flotilla members
France demanded stronger European Union economic penalties on Tuesday following unrest against members of a Gaza-bound flotilla, with a senior secretary saying action was necessary within the union’s directive structure.
“It is essential to go further with economic penalties in the directive structure of the European Union,” Premier Sebastien Lecornu informed the National House. “It is PM states and in full respect of global statute.”
“The fact that some do not respect it does not mean that we, in turn, should fail to respect it,” he observed.
The Israeli forces attacked the Gaza-bound Global Sumud humanitarian flotilla last Monday in global waters. Live broadcasts from the flotilla showed Israeli naval forces intercepting each vessel.
