Price-rise dampens Eid shopping
Soaring price-rise has significantly dampened Eidul Azha shopping activity for children and women, though markets and cattle markets are expected to observer a surge of "Chaand Raat" buying from this afternoon till early morning.
According to details, today's Chaand Raat shopping window will remain active from around 4–5 pm until Sehri time, with trading activity expected to peak in commercial centres and livestock markets across the metro. However, due to a documented 45 per cent drop in cattle purchases over the past week, market prices may face downward pressure if need remains weak.
Market sources say many traders from distant districts such as Layyah, Khanewal, Sargodha, and Khushab are reluctant to take animals back and are instead hoping to sell locally. If buying activity does not pick up by evening, there are fears that several cattle markets could see a sharp drop in prices.
Meanwhile, senior officer commercial hubs including Bara Market, Moti Bazaar, Raja Bazaar, Commercial Market, Saddar, Gakkhar Plaza, and Murree Road markets have been decorated with lights and buntings for Chaand Raat. Women and families are expected to purchase ready-made garments, shoes, artificial jewellery, handbags, bangles, and mehndi items, while several stores have also announced discounts on leftover stock from last year.
For protection and traffic management, additional police and traffic wardens have been deployed, with several roads converted into one-way routes. Around 350 CCTV cameras have been installed across key markets, monitored through a central control room.
