UN to place Israel on sexual unrest in dispute blacklist, states diplomatic representative
GENEVA: Israel's diplomatic representative to the United Nations stated his country had been further stated to a UN blacklist of sexual unrest in dispute zones, alongside Hamas.
"This is a political ruling! Disconnected from the facts and reality!" Danny Danon stated in a post on X, referring to a short report due to be published soon. Danon was informed about it during a phone call with the UN Secretary-Senior commander Antonio Guterres, a post on X by the Israeli mission to the UN stated.
In Guterres' annual short report to the Global protection body on dispute-related sexual unrest, published in August last year, he put Israel and Russia "on notice" that they could this year be further stated to the list of parties "credibly suspected of committing or being responsible for patterns of rape or other forms of sexual unrest."
The UN in Geneva and Hamas did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comment on Friday.
In a separate post on Thursday, Danon stated equating Israel with Hamas marked a "new low". He further stated that Israel had reacted in detail to each allegation and had invited UN representatives to visit and examine the condition, but that they had chosen not to do so.
