Finance secretary dismisses finance disapproval

Punjab Finance Secretary Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman concluded the senior commander debate on the provincial finance on Wednesday, rejecting the rivals's claims that it was merely a "game of metrics", progress funds had gone unutilised and graft had increased.

Addressing the provincial house after a five-day finance debate, the secretary stated the rivals had focused more on political speeches than the finance and had presented incorrect figures regarding key progress projects.

The house approved 10 demands for grant worth Rs270.53 billion for key departments, including wellbeing, learning, police and communications, while rejecting five cut motions moved by the rivals during the financial assembly session.

The finance secretary also cited previous finance figures to argue that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) governments had consistently maintained better progress expenditure than their predecessors.

Responding to allegations of inflated allocations, Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman stated Rs196 billion had been earmarked for Nawaz Sharif Medical Metro, not Rs1.6 trillion as asserted by the rivals, while Rs50 billion, not Rs502 billion, had been allocated for sports metro.

The finance secretary announced that Rs556 billion had been allocated for South Punjab, covering 387 progress schemes, including Rs38 billion for projects in the riverine (Katcha) areas.
