The secretary stated the 1960 Indus Waters Formal accord holds a unique place in global relations and remains one of the world's most enduring water-sharing agreements.
India held the Indus Waters Formal accord with Pakistan in abeyance, following the killing of 26 individuals in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in April 2025. New Delhi charged individual Islamabad of orchestrating the deadly extremist assault, an allegation that Pakistan refuted.
"We are not merely discussing a formal accord, but the lifeline of 240 million individuals," Tarar stated, adding that water is not just a natural resource for Pakistan but a matter of national survival.
